Some of the issues psychotherapy can help
you with:

Anxiety

Anxiety is a general feeling that can appear when we feel worried or afraid of something that might happen or which we think it could happen. It’s a natural response to stress and can manifest in various ways, such as persistent worry, racing thoughts, restlessness, and physical sensations like a rapid heartbeat or difficulty breathing. Sometimes anxiety can become a mental health problem when worries and fears are out of proportion and prevent you from going about your everyday life and enjoy things you normally do. You might start avoiding situations where you can feel anxious, or your worries feel distressing and hard to control. It is important to understand that anxiety is not a reflection of weakness or inadequacy; it is a common human experience that can be managed and overcome.

Depression

Depression is a mental state that can cause persistent feelings of sadness, lack of motivation or interest in activities. It can affect sleep, concentration, levels of energy and it can be accompanied by
negative thinking, guilt, pessimism and lack of hope for the future. It differs from normal sadness in reaction to a negative event, grief or break up of a relationship which can be temporary. In a depressive state the negative feelings impact on aspects of everyday life and the individual may find unable to perform normal activities.

Relationship

Relationship issues are a common psychological condition that many people bring to therapy. Relationships are part of our daily lives and interaction with others can help the individual to understand aspect of others as well as themselves, but they can also be challenging and complex at times. In psychoanalytically oriented therapy, the close partnership between therapist and patient facilitates a close look at possible behaviour patterns and ways of relating to others that might have its roots well before than the present situation. Unhealthy relationships can impact on the individual wellbeing and affect other areas of life.

Traumas

Trauma is a complex and deeply personal experience that can have a profound impact on our lives. It refers to an event or series of events that overwhelm our ability to cope, leaving us feeling helpless, frightened, and emotionally wounded. Traumatic experiences can vary widely, ranging from physical or emotional abuse, accidents, natural disasters, to witnessing violence or even going through a life-threatening situation. These experiences can shake the very foundation of our sense of safety and trust in the world, leaving lasting imprints on our psyche. Trauma can affect our thoughts, emotions, behaviours, and even our physical well-
being. As a psychotherapist, my role is to provide a safe and supportive environment where we can explore and heal from these traumas, helping you regain a sense of control, resilience, and a brighter outlook for the future.

Expat issues

As an expat, navigating the complexities of living in a foreign country can bring about a range of unique psychological challenges. Adjusting to a new culture, language, and social norms can often lead to feelings of isolation, loneliness, and a sense of being disconnected from familiar support networks.

Cultural shock and homesickness are common experiences that can trigger a variety of emotional responses, including anxiety, depression, and stress. Additionally, the pressure to adapt and succeed in unfamiliar surroundings may give rise to self-doubt and a heightened sense of vulnerability. Therapy will support you in exploring these issues, processing your emotions, fostering resilience, and help you thrive in your expat journey.
